Why are Gas & Electrical Inspections Important

It is important to undertake regular checks of all gas appliances to prevent the spread of carbon monoxide which is a colourless, odourless, toxic flammable gas. Carbon monoxide causes serious illness which can lead to death if consumed in any great quantities. Statistics of rental properties highlights that a number of properties has non complient gas appliances.

As of March 2021, changes to the Residential Tenancies Act in Victoria have made these checks of all gas appliances mandatory.

The Residential Tenancy Act (1977) requires all rental properties to undertake (every two years) safety checks of the switchboard to ensure dangers to faults with electrical appliances, fixtures and switchboards do not pose a danger to the occupants of the rental property.
